Who doesn't love crime fiction? Everyone does. It is one of the genres which give you the thrills. Now, who is your favourite detective character? Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew, Hercule Poirot or Miss Jane Marple?

Whoever it is, let them rest aside for a while and read the new age crime fiction thriller set in the not-so-unusual Sea but in very unusual circumstances. LOVE ON THE ROCKS penned by Ismita Tandon Dhanker is one if its kind Indian Crime Fiction.

Ismita Tandon, a naval wife uses her experiences in the sea to brew a very intelligent story that keeps you engaged, intrigued and best of all keeps you thinking on every page.

When the chief cook Gary is freezed to death  in the reefer container on the ship SEA HYENA, owned b a Japanese shipping corporataion, it is justified to be an accident and  life moves on. Death has an effect on every living being and it is worse when you are secluded in the waters of the ocean far away from civilization. Everyone is still gripped  by it when Sancha, the newly wed wife of chief officer Aaron joins them aboard. And it is here our story begins. Things go awry when money goes missing from the captain's cabinet. Roughly worth 20,000$ , a relatively small amount for a shipping company but the reputation loss was ten times more. Result: Investigation about the robbery takes place revealing not so very comfortable secrets, leading to tensions among the crew. A possible link between the death in freezer and the robbery is still being considered when the most important witness in the case Baldy falls overboard and is half eaten by sharks. Did he attempt suicide or was their a purpose in his death?  Who is the maniac killer? The captain, the chief officer or others?? It is this mystery you resolve along with the author. Now coming to the big question, how do the curtains fall? is the murderer punished or lives to die another day?. Well, you have to read the book to get there.

To say that Ismita is a rookie would be doing unjustice to her caliber. She has a mature writing style and one, which reader will connect with. Her intelligent writing is complemented by her ability to use poetry for her advantage and proceed with the story. Her ability to make you feel vicarious is something you will instantly connect with. As you reach the last pages, you will have your own theory and verdict, but then it is the author's story. She springs a surprise. Read the last pages carefully and I am sure you will re-read the end to make sure you got it right or atleast to make sure where you went wrong.

All in all a good read, a page turner which you will enjoy reading and recommend to others.
